DUSA
Giving students the ability to see what discounts they can access through their student memberships.
The goal of the project
To improve the previous ‘student discounts’ page to showcase the brands and discount offerings that were available through being a DUSA member
My role
Lead the UX Design Process and handed over to development, as well as a small part in UI using some existing styles and modules we have already designed for the website.
The task at hand
The partner discounts section for DUSA used to be a pretty simple list of text columns that had hyperlinks to navigate through to the partners website so students could learn more about the product and offering. This worked to some extent, but was definitely lacking the appealing look and it also stopped the partners from being able to showcase their brand on the website.
The task was to simply re-imagine this section so it could showcase the partner’s branding, have a description of the discount they offer and allow you to still navigate through to the partners website where you could apply your discounts.
Goal of the partnership discounts section
The main thing that we needed to achieve was to make this section visually appealing and make it easier for users to navigate through a large list of information to find discounts that they want to use with their DUSA memberships. We also needed to showcase the partner’s branding, and give enough information to entice the user to click through and use their discount with a partner that they were interested in purchasing from.
How the page used to look
As you can see with the old design of this section, there was a long list that users needed to look through. It was extremely text heavy which made it difficult for users to get the information they wanted, and there are also no visual cues for users to identify brands they might already resonate with.
What the new discounts page looks like
The updated discounts page follows a really simple design with basic cards that show a hero branding image, a quick description of the discount on offer, and opposed to the old list version, the entire card is clickable which made it easier for users to navigate to. The cards being clickable was extremely important from a mobile perspective as well!
Conclusion and Key Takeaways
I only had a couple of hours to do this redesign and I was definitely happy with the way it turned out. This was also one of my first pages that I had the responsibility of taking the design on by myself, and I felt as though I learned a lot about the simplicity of pages and how overcomplicating things like this is never needed.
Something I wish we could’ve done was add a ‘load more’ or list of pages to this section to prevent a massive scrolling list of cards to navigate through, but this was more of a development limitation due to budgets for this particular page.
